Take Barbie and Lego for a train ride next week during Metra toy drive

Metra is offering an easy way to transform Christmas morning for a family in need.

During the morning rush on Tuesday, Dec. 10, the commuter railroad is collecting new, unwrapped toys at downtown stations in partnership with U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation.

Cash donations also will be accepted and go directly to the foundation.

Marines and Metra employees will be accepting contributions between 6 and 9 a.m. at LaSalle Street, Millennium, Union and Van Buren Street stations as well as Ogilvie Transportation Center.

“Year after year, Metra customers and employees have shown how willing they are to help make the holidays brighter for the community and children in need,” Metra CEO Jim Derwinski said in a statement.

“I’d like to thank them in advance for their generous donations, which truly embody the spirit of My Metra and of the holidays.”

It’s the 13th year Metra has cosponsored the toy drive. In 2023, donations resulted in more than 114,000 gifts going to children in the Chicago region.
