Aurora Lions ring bells for Salvation Army; volunteers needed
Aurora Lions Club members rang handbells for the Aurora Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign on Saturday, Nov. 23.
From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., 14 Lions collected donations in one-hour shifts outside Jewel-Osco at 1952 W. Galena Blvd. in Aurora from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Army Aurora Corps Major Joaquin Rangel visited the Lions and expressed appreciation for their service. Volunteers were Joe Beary, Tom Muth, Paul Buddy, Al Benson, Arvid Meyer, Archie Vargas, Bobby Menendez, Dan Vargas, Mary Arch, Jay Short, Randy and Lisa Brown and Hilary and Lisa Adam.
According to Rangel, his Aurora unit's goal is $188,000, but volunteers are desperately needed.
He told a reporter, “We have 40 places to ring including stores like Jewel and Walmart each with two doors. The question is, can we get 40 volunteers?”
Rangel said individuals and youth groups like Boy Scouts and Girl Scout troops are welcome to volunteer.
