Glen Ellyn panel to review exterior look of planned new Metra station

Glen Ellyn’s Architectural Appearance Commission will hold a special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 5, to review the exterior of a proposed new downtown train station.

Village officials have long sought to replace the 1960s-era, one-story Metra commuter station just south of Crescent Boulevard and Forest Avenue.

The proposed plan includes a new pedestrian tunnel located below the tracks; warming shelters; and a plaza area with benches, tables and bike parking, according to village documents. The exterior of the new station would be primarily brick with large stone arches at the entryways.

The commission meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Glen Ellyn Civic Center.
