Challenges are needed

Steven Buechel of Gurnee wrote on Nov. 14 about the will of the people and warning Gov. Pritzker to adhere to the will of the people.

He notes that Donald Trump won by more than 5 million votes. Let’s put that in perspective first of all. That represents 50.2% of the popular vote.

Yes, he had a big advantage in electoral votes, but certainly not in the popular vote. This shows that almost half the people in this country voted against him.

As for the electoral votes, he won by slim majorities in the swing states. Give him credit for that, but don’t make it out to seem like it was a landslide, because it wasn’t.

As for Illinois, he shows that Donald Trump got 44% of the popular vote. However, Harris got 54% of the popular vote. So my math may not be what it used to be, but that still adds up to a sizable majority.

He goes on to say J.B. Pritzker should listen to the electorate in our state. As 54% of the people voted for Kamala Harris, I do believe he already is doing that.

Also, do not forget how J.B. Pritzker stood firm against the wishy-washy policies of Donald Trump during the COVID crisis. It was because of this steadfast firmness and leadership that Illinois got through this with little or no help from the federal government.

I’m not sure what this poster is asking for, but it seems to me he wants Pritzker just to cave. I don’t think so. He can and will stand up against him. That is his right.

And by the way, if you’re looking at the cabinet nominees that Donald Trump has made, now It’s more necessary than ever to try to counter what he is doing to this country.
