Elk Grove Village reduces property tax levy nearly 2%
Elk Grove Village will cut its property tax levy 1.83%, trustees decided Tuesday night, thanks to better-than-expected general fund revenues bolstered by new data center construction permit fees.
The levy reduction — for property taxes payable in 2025 — will mean a savings of $14.63 for the owner of a $367,900 home, officials said.
It comes after the village board kept the levy flat the past two years, following a 10% hike to fund infrastructure upgrades in 2021.
Mayor Craig Johnson renewed his pitch for pension reform in Springfield, saying police and fire pensions accounted for 18% of property taxes in 2000, but 53% today.
