Day of Giving to raise funds for MCC students facing unexpected expenses

Support McHenry County College students and their ability to stay in school during the Friends of McHenry County College Foundation’s annual Day of Giving, Thursday, Nov. 21.

During this collegewide day of philanthropy, alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, friends, and the community are encouraged to donate to support the Student Success Fund at MCC.

The Student Success Fund provides MCC students with financial support to handle unexpected and unique emergency expenses such as medical bills, essential vehicle repairs, technology needs or utility bills. Through this fund, the college aims to improve retention when unforeseen circumstances may impact a student’s ability to stay in college and complete their educational goals.

“For many students, encouragement and support from the community is what makes all the difference in their ability to stay on track,” said Brian DiBona, executive director of the Friends of MCC Foundation. “Your support is a reminder that no student has to face their challenges alone. On the Day of Giving, our goal is to raise $10,000 to ensure that students can stay focused on their studies rather than worrying about unexpected costs. By contributing, you are helping to create a future where financial setbacks don’t stand in the way of education.”

The foundation has awarded more than $19,450 from the Student Success Fund so far in 2024. More than $195,000 in emergency funding has been awarded to students since the fund’s inception in 2017.

In addition to the Student Success Fund, the foundation offers hundreds of student scholarships; operates Education to Empowerment, a scholarship and mentoring program for students; and manages the college’s Alumni Association and related alumni events.

Donations to the foundation are tax deductible, and all proceeds go directly to helping students. College supporters can make gifts of any size at www.mchenry.edu/giving or by calling (815) 455-8721. For more information, visit www.mchenry.edu/supportmcc.
