Pottawatomie Garden Club awards landscape commendation to Mio Modo

The Pottawatomie Garden Club celebrated the end of their 2024 season with a fall luncheon on Monday, Oct. 28.

Each year, as part of its mission to beautify the town of St. Charles, the garden club awards a landscape commendation to a local business. During the lunch, the landscape commendation committee presented its award.

The 2024 Pottawatomie Garden Club Landscape Commendation Award was given to the restaurant Mio Modo at 200 S. Second St. in St. Charles. Andrea Alvarez, who maintains the lush containers and window boxes surrounding the restaurant accepted the certificate at the luncheon.

The club, which has over 100 members, meets on the fourth Monday of the month, from March though October.

Club members plant flowers on the Main Street and Illinois bridges, and around the municipal building each spring and fall. They also honor past members with the Memorial Tree Program.

Each year, the club awards annual scholarships to horticulture students and provides support to gardening and environmental projects in the community.
