Thanks to community for supporting free speech

Every Monday since June 24, a group of about three dozen women and men have been gathering at Palatine’s Volunteer Plaza on Northwest Highway to exercise our First Amendment rights by expressing our opinions on reproductive rights, equal rights, gun safety and other issues that are important to us.

Some of us hold cardboard signs. Some of us carry American flags.

In response, a large majority of motorists have been supportive as they drive by each week and beep while giving us a thumbs-up.

First, we would like to thank the Palatine Police Department for their professionalism in keeping us safe. They have been respectful during our events and responsive when we once raised a safety concern.

Second, we would like to say a big “Thank you!” to the people of Palatine for their enthusiastic reception to our Monday rallies. It has been much appreciated and serves as a reminder of the freedom of expression that we enjoy in our great country.
