Officials: Fleeing driver faces charges in 2 towns after crash in Arlington Heights

A 19-year-old man is facing multiple traffic-related charges in two jurisdictions after police say he fled officers in Prospect Heights and crashed into a semitrailer-truck in Arlington Heights Tuesday morning.

Prospect Heights police said an officer tried to stop a gray Lexus sedan driving nearly twice the posted 30 mph speed limit on westbound Willow Road around 10:30 a.m.

The officer made a U-turn in order to pull over the Lexus, but the driver sped away north on Rand Road; the Prospect Heights officer called off the pursuit and notified dispatchers the vehicle was heading into Arlington Heights.

About two minutes later, Arlington Heights police were called to a crash involving a gray Lexus that had driven under a semitrailer-truck near the intersection of Palatine and Rand roads.

The driver of the Lexus was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.

The Lexus driver’s name is being withheld until charges are filed.

Prospect Heights police said they are preparing “multiple traffic-related charges” against the Lexus driver. Arlington Heights police did not respond to requests for information about what charges they intended to file.
