Public art is free and worthwhile
Kudos to The Daily Herald and its recent attention to murals being created and adding to our suburban culture.
On Sept. 18, you featured a mural on the side of the parking garage on West Dundee Road in Wheeling whose exterior previously was bare concrete. On Oct. 19, you featured two front-page stories featuring a mural in the works at the East Dundee Village Hall and another in Wheaton at the plaza outside of the city’s French Market Pavilion.
You’re to be complimented on featuring something other than politics at this time of the year.
In furtherance of creating an awareness of the cultural value of public art, we would ask you and your readers to come to Naperville where Century Walk Corp. has created over 50 public art locations featuring murals, reliefs, sculptures and mosaics since 1996.
In fact, there is so much to see that you might wish to prepare for your visit by going to www.centurywalk-artguide.org where the art is displayed as well as an audio describing what you are viewing.
And when you go, allow enough time to take it all in and also know that because it is public art, it is free 24-7-365.
