Aurora celebrates Dia de Los Muertos with youth and adults
Aurora’s Mexican community recently convened in downtown Aurora to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.
The annual celebration of those who have passed is a time-honored tradition for many Latino communities and has been celebrated in Aurora as a community for nearly twenty years.
Celebrated on Nov. 1-2 each year, the Nov. 1 festivities included traditional Mexican performances and a popular fashion show of live Catrinas.
La Catrina is a skeleton figure and a prominent symbol of the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) in Mexico. She is often depicted wearing an elegant dress and an ornate hat.
Young and adult Catrinas walked the runway, concluding with one leading Catrina and a Catrin, a male skeleton figure.
Following the opening ceremony, a celebration continued well into the evening at various downtown businesses.
