Buffalo Grove moving ahead with temporary fire station at former public works building
Buffalo Grove may have moved to a new public works facility. But the old one still has some life left.
The village plans to use the building at 51 Raupp Boulevard as a temporary fire station during renovations of fire Station 25 at 505 W. Dundee Road, and Station 26 at 1051 Highland Grove Drive.
Monday, the village board voted in favor of hiring Addison-based Frederick Quinn Corp. as the project’s construction manager. It will receive up to $48,700 for those services.
Quinn will have the authority to execute multiple construction contracts, with approval from the village manager, totaling up to $275,000.
Village Manager Dane Bragg said demolition on the existing Station 25 is expected by April, with completion on the new fire station by early fall 2026.
Station 26 will then move into the Public Works building during its remodeling. The goal is to have both stations operating by 2027.
“It works out really well,” Bragg said. “For our firefighter/paramedics, they’re in a permanent facility. It’s a way better work environment for everybody.”
The village intends to retain the existing layout and infrastructure at the former public works site to keep costs down.
Fire Chief Larry Kane said the village would have spent considerably more money if it had not been able to use the public works facility.
“This is a nice, smooth transition, it's cost effective, and it makes sense when you're considering value,” he said.
