Incumbents leading in Kane County Board races
All the incumbents running for Kane County board were leading in their bids to keep their seats, according to unofficial election returns.
Here’s who is leading in each race, as of late Tuesday evening.
In District 2, Democrat Dale Berman of North Aurora secured had 6,110 votes as of 9:30 p.m., for a second term. The former North Aurora village president’s opponent Republican Ellen Nottke of unincorporated Batavia, had 5,455. Berman was first elected in 2022.
District 4 Democrat Mavis Bates of Aurora was leading with 5,381 votes, against independent Robert Dennin of Aurora, who had 3,316 votes. Bates was first elected in 2020.
Republican Laura Curtis, currently a North Aurora village trustee, had secured 5,009 votes to 6,558 votes for incumbent Bill Tarver, a Batavia Democrat seeking a second term for District 10. He was elected to the board in 2022; this will be his first four-year stint.
District 12 Republican Bill Roth of St. Charles was leading with 6.303 votes to Democrat Ricky Rivard’s, also of St. Charles, 5,031 votes. Roth was elected to the board in 2022.
Republican Jonathan Gripe of St. Charles had 7,111 votes to Democrat Brenda Engelhardt’s 5,235 votes in the bid to replace outgoing longtime board member Mark Davoust in District 14. Gripe defeated Davoust in the Republican primary.
Democrat Ted Penesis of South Elgin had 4,597 votes, and Republican opponent Eric Stare had 4,111 votes, in the race to replace Republican Mike Kenyon, who has been on the board for 20 years. Stare beat Kenyon in the Republican primary.
Incumbent Republican Rick Williams of unincorporated Elburn had 6,811 votes in his effort to return to the board, this time for a four-year term. He was first elected in 2022. Democrat Sandy Kaczmarski, also of unincorporated Elburn, had 4,876 votes.
In the Elgin area, District 20 Democrat incumbent Cheryl Strathmann was holding off Republican Sylvia Schrage, to win a second term, 3,019 votes to 1,743 votes, respectively.
District 22 incumbent Democrat Vern Tepe of Elgin had 4,588 votes to Republican David Teas’ 4,208. Teas is from Elgin. This will be Tepe’s second term.
Uncontested
Democrat Sonia Garcia was elected to her first term for District 6. She ran unopposed.
District 8 board member Michelle Gumz of Aurora, a Democrat, was unopposed in her bid for a second term.
Democrat Jarrett Sanchez of Carpentersville was elected to a third term on the board.
There are still outstanding vote-by-mail ballots. The deadline for those to be counted is Nov. 19. Then the clerk has until Nov. 26 to canvass the votes.
