Truck damages electrical poles near downtown Geneva
A truck driving down South Sixth Street in Geneva hit a power line Monday morning and damaged five utility poles.
The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Electrical service was disrupted from Franklin to South streets.
Public works crews were taking customers manually offline to make repairs since there were active power cables on the ground.
The city had asked for help from other municipal power agencies to make the repairs.
Sixth was closed from Campbell to Fulton streets, and Franklin was closed from Fifth to Seventh streets.
Some customers were expected to experience intermittent and temporary power outages as homes in the area were switched to another power source.
However, customers living in the most immediate vicinity may be without power for a significant period because of the scope of the damage incurred by the truck.
The city will provide updates when more information is made available.
