Police investigating suspicious incident near Batavia school

Batavia police say there was a suspicious incident Friday involving two children at Prairie Lathem Park, 601 N. Prairie St.

Police were told that sometime between 4:45 to 5:15 p.m., two elementary school age children were playing in the park near the southeast side of Louise White Elementary School when they heard a voice calling from a cluster of trees on the east side of the school. The children said a man was calling to them and offering free candy. The kids described him as possibly white, older, wearing all black, including a black hooded sweatshirt, and he was under an orange blanket.

The children left and reported it to their parents. As they were leaving, they saw a black sedan leaving the school’s parking lot.

Anyone with information, including surveillance video, is asked to call (630) 454-2500.
