Phones and trains
Regarding the tragic increase in pedestrian deaths on railroad tracks, there is another factor that was not mentioned in the recent article by Marni Pyke. An unfortunate habit of too many people today is distractibility with their phones. It has become more of a norm to see people looking down at their phones when they are doing pretty much anything, but in this case when they are walking in a potentially dangerous area. I’ve seen it. Add being plugged into music and you have double danger. I feel this should be noted and added to the list of the downsides of addictive phone usage.
