Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band to perform annual fall concert Nov. 16

The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band will present its 24th annual fall concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Vernon Hills High School, 145 Lakeview Parkway in Vernon Hills.

This concert, “A ‘Heard’ of Goats,” will feature music of the finest composers from the 19th and 20th centuries, some originally for wind bands and others transcribed from music written originally for orchestra.

Some of those composers whose work will be featured include Persichetti, Verdi, Weber, Johann Strauss, Bizet, Stravinsky, and Aaron Copland.

There will be multiple featured soloists from the band as well, including Randy Murray (trumpet), music director Howard Green (clarinet), and former WFMT Radio host Scott Thomas narrating “A Lincoln Portrait.”

The band also will present the complete suites of music from the beloved opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet.

The concert will provide selections for almost all interests and promises to be an exciting and enjoyable evening. If you have ever heard some of our selections played by orchestras you will be pleased and surprised by the colors that can be achieved when they are performed by a band!

The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band, now in its 24th year, is a program of the Village of Buffalo Grove, founding music director Howard Green, and associate conductor Allison Rakickas.

Tickets are $10 in advance, and $12 at the door; seniors (55 or older) and students with ID are $8 at all times. Advance tickets will be available online at tickets.bgsb.org, as well as at the Buffalo Grove Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd., or from any band member. Tickets also will be available at the door.
