Thirty-seven members of the St. Charles Kiwanis and St. Charles Golden K Kiwanis clubs spent the morning of Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva participating in the annual Kiwanis One Day event. It's a day when Kiwanis clubs worldwide unite to volunteer on a local community project.

The day's project, not a glamorous one, was repackaging onions for use in meals. More than 7,600 pounds of onions were processed, resulting in over 6,300 meals.

The Northern Illinois Food Bank is no stranger to St. Charles Kiwanis, as a contingent of members volunteer there every second Thursday of the month.

“Kiwanians enjoy volunteering,” said Joe Cucci, local coordinator of the One Day event. “Partnering with the NIFB to help our neighbors who are experiencing difficulties helps them, but is also very rewarding to us. Kiwanians understand that doing good makes one feel good.”

The St. Charles Kiwanis Club meets at noon Tuesdays at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave. in St. Charles.
