Vote with an eye on quality of life
A lot of economic statistics are being bandied about by politicians in trying to convince the November voter to choose their candidate. (employment numbers, etc.),
The overriding consideration for voters should be a personal, pragmatic approach such as answering for yourself the question “am I better off today than I was four years ago.” My thinking is that four years ago I was not paying anything close to five dollars for a loaf of bread or seven dollars for a box of cereal.
I worked 41 years for the same company and I had been receiving a modest retirement amount. However, it was lacking in a provision for a cost of living adjustment. COLA The high rate of inflation for the past four years has eroded by at least 20 percent the value of my pension.
We now have the opportunity to vote for executive and congressional candidates who are not lifetime politicians, but instead have had experiences in the business world and therefore have a basic knowledge of economics.
