Celebrate Day of the Dead at Gail Borden Library in Elgin Saturday

Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin will hold a Day of the Dead Family Festival on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The free event, from 10 a.m. to noon at the library, 270 N. Grove Ave., will feature the presentation of ofrenda elements, costume contests, temporary tattoo stations and a photo booth with catrinas.

Live music will be provided by Yael Xolalpa accompanied by Chaparrita de Oro-Xitlali and Joya Dorada, the Elgin Area School District U-46 high school mariachi band.

A ticketed concert by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra in conjunction with the Day of the Dead celebrations follows at 2:30 p.m.
