Wearing a fresh coat of orange paint trimmed with green, black and white and resting atop a farm silo, “Happy Jack,” an 18-foot wide by 15-foot tall fiberglass pumpkin, has been drawing visitors to Goebbert's Farm in South Barrington since 1979. The pumpkin was repainted during the Spring of this year. “It's been repainted twice, once by my grandfather (Jim Goebbert) many, many years ago by hand, with car paint, and then we repainted it this spring,” manager Ryan Smith said. “We had a company come out with this giant crane and it took several days to repaint it.” Goebbert's Fall Festival runs through Oct. 31.
