Suspect charged after discharge of replica blank gun inside Aurora mall

A Joliet man was charged with disorderly conduct after the accidental discharge of a fake gun Saturday at Fox Valley Mall in Aurora, police said.

Kyle G. Strango, 21, is accused of “actions (that) alarm or disturb another provoking breach of peace,” Aurora police said Monday.

Officers responded to the shopping center just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shot fired.

Jim Levicki, a spokesman for the Aurora Police Department, said Monday a replica pistol/top firing blank gun fell out of the suspect’s clothing and subsequently discharged accidentally in the food court.

The suspect fled but was quickly apprehended, and the item was recovered.

No injuries were reported.

Normal operations resumed at the mall, which was deemed safe by authorities. Police also characterized the incident as isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.
