Matching politics to religious values
I was raised in an Evangelical church. One song I clearly remember from Sunday school goes like this:
”Red and Yellow, black or white they are precious in his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.”
I suspect He felt the same about adults. That’s why I find it so stunning that today’s “Christian” right and “Christian nationalists” can hold the teachings of Jesus on their heads at the same time they harbor such hate in their hearts for migrants, people of color, LGBTQ individuals and so on.
I just wish I knew how one can pray in church yet cheer when parents and children are separated at the border. How Yale graduates can perpetrate a rumor about legal immigrants eating family pets. How people can argue that all life must be respected yet not realize life extends beyond birth and children continue to go hungry.
I don’t know what you call that but it’s certainly not Christian.
