Diwali, the festival of lights, gets off to early start in Buffalo Grove
Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, doesn’t officially begin until Oct. 31, but when food and fun is involved, nobody minds an early start.
And so it was Sunday at the Community Arts Center in Buffalo Grove, where crowds gathered for a Diwali celebration that featured games, crafts, performances and more.
Among the young attendees was 6-year-old Aurora Basu of Long Grove, who spent some time creating sand art.
“This is all she does at home is crafts,” said her mom, Anna Basu. “It’s a great way to keep her mind busy.”
Diwali celebrates the spiritual victory of light over darkness, and generally is held over five days.
