Girls tennis: Benet, Batavia among sectional champions
BENET 1A SECTIONAL
The Redwings, the runner-up in 1A in 2023, won its own sectional with 36 points. Nazareth was second with 26 points.
The Redwings claimed the top 2 spots in singles and doubles. The top 4 finishers in singles and doubles qualify for next weekend's state finals
In singles, Meredith Converse was first followed by Lily Lopatka. In doubles, Shane Delaney-Claire Lopatka were the champions.
and Natalie Grover-Katie Jendra qualified for the state meet with a second place effort.
"We are starting to ramp it up," said Benet coach Michael Hand. “We are getting ready for the state meet next weekend. We had solid play from everybody. It was great to see an all-Benet final in singles and doubles.”
HINSDALE SOUTH 1A SECTIONAL
The host Hornets were sectional champions with 30 points.
Chloe Goins was the sectional champ in singles while Addy Filipiak placed second.
Hailey Goins-Teodora Savic qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish.
TIMOTHY CHRISTIAN 1A SECTIONAL
The host Trojans were second with 24 points. DePaul College Prep was the team champ with 20 points.
Senior Jane Carter was the individual singles champ for the Trojans. The doubles duo of senior Sami Drye-freshman Laura LaBardi were fourth.
GENEVA 2A SECTIONAL
Batavia edged both St Charles North and St. Charles East to win the sectional title. The Bulldogs scored 27 points, just ahead of St. Charles North with 26 points and St. Charles East with 25 points. It was the Bulldogs’ third sectional title in 4 years.
Batavia’s Julia Arulandu (34--4) won the singles title with Kelsey Jacob of St. Charles East second. Also qualifying for the state meet are Claire Anderson of Batavia (third) and Zoe Hermann of St. Charles East (fourth).
North's doubles teams of Shannon Lu-Danielle Dejanovich and Reese Thomas-Maddie Zubel were 1-2. Avary Sitarz-Harper Charlson of St. Charles East was third and Batavia's Casey O'Brien-Emma Larson placed fourth.
HARLEM 2A SECTIONAL
Hampshire was fourth with 15 points.
Junior Isabella Kowalak placed third in singles to qualify for the state finals.
HUNTLEY 2A SECTIONAL
Lake Zurich and Barrington tied for the championship with 25 points. Huntley was third with 20 points.
Advancing to the state finals for Huntley are the doubles teams of Katie-Burkey-Ella Doughty (second) and Julie Klockner-Ariana Patel (fourth).
LAKE PARK 2A SECTIONAL
Conant won the team championship with 36 points. Wheaton North led by a third-place finish from the doubles team of Stella Tarusha-Kaylee Phillips were sixth with 9 points.
LYONS TOWNSHIP 2A SECTIONAL
Hinsdale Central (29 points) edged York (28) to win the sectional team title.
The Red Devils got a second place effort in singles from Kotryna Tomas and Asha Sarai was third.
In doubles, Sydney Shuster-Abigail Gambla were second and junior Lauren Panveno-Sophia Virmani placed fourth.
York claimed both the singles and doubles titles.
In singles, Lizzie Isyanov was the sectional champion while CJ Coan and Josie Coan captured the doubles crown.
"We are very excited to make an impact at the state tournament," said York coach Kara Dollaske. “The sectional was a true battle.”
NAPERVILLE NORTH CLASS 2A SECTIONAL
Wheaton Warrenville South, the DuKane Conference champs, rolled to victory at Naperville North. The Tigers scored 27 points to finish first.
Riley and Reese Lepsi placed second in doubles while the duo of Kaley McCabe-Lauren Morton placed third. Brooke Ittersagen placed third in singles to qualify for the state tournament.
Downers Grove South was second with 20 points. Gabby David was the sectional singles champion while Lily David placed fourth.
Naperville Central was third with 18 points. Sophia Olaru was second in singles.
Naperville North placed fourth with 16 points. Gabby Lee-Brooke Coffman were sectional champions in doubles.
Glenbard West placed fifth with 9 points.
The Hilltoppers’ Audrey Creswell-Kendall Mehta qualified for state with a fourth-place effort.
WEST AURORA 2A SECTIONAL
Waubonsie Valley claimed the sectional title in Aurora with 22 points.
The doubles team of Sophia Parranto-Devi Rao placed first. In singles, Lydia Parranto was second.
Neuqua Valley was third with 15 points.
The doubles duo of Sophia Chiou-Kyle Tran (third) and Zara Khan-Madelyn Finke (fourth) qualified.
Metea Valley was fourth with 14 points.
Sophie Cahue-Kylie Tran was second for the Warriors.
The host Blackhawks, sixth with 11 points, were paced by Elena Grmusa who was third in singles.
ST. FRANCIS 1A SECTIONAL
Ashley Rajcevich from St. Francis and Rachel Appelhans of Crystal Lake South qualified for state.
Qualifying for the state meet in doubles were Cameron Rajcevich-Elizabeth Szalek and Ellie Steffens-Carmen Risdon of St. Francis and the Wheaton Academy duo of Analeigh Hoogerheide-Brielle Ziman.
The semifinals and finals in singles and doubles will take place on Monday.
