Grant surprises Antioch in 3 OTs

Grant got a fourth-down touchdown catch by Cameron Houghton, then stopped a 2-point conversion to beat Northern Lake County Conference leader Antioch 58-56 in triple overtime on Friday.

Both teams scored touchdowns in the first overtime. Grant (5-3) got a defensive stop in the second OT, but missed a potential game-winning field goal off the upright. The Bulldogs got the ball first in the third OT, scored on the fourth-and-11 pass and added a 2-point conversion. Antioch (6-2) then scored in one play, but Grant's defense stopped a run on the conversion to end the game.

“We're still a young team, a lot of juniors and we're getting a little bit better throughout the year,” Grant coach Tim Norwood said. “Just had an energy that we haven't played with yet. The kids came in, not intimidated, which I think is half the battle coming into Antioch.

“The biggest thing for us is we cleaned it up, didn't have turnovers. We've been turnover-prone this year. Took care of the ball, not many flags. All those things add up.”

Antioch's star running back Martin Cohen left the game with an injury in the first quarter and did not return.
