Five high school games to watch this weekend
Libertyville (7-0) at Lake Forest (5-2)
The Wildcats can clinch no worse than a share of the North Suburban Conference title with a win. The Quinn Schambow numbers continue to dazzle — Libertyville’s QB is up to 35 touchdowns this season and still just one interception. He’s completed 110 of 148 passes (74.3%) for 2,126 yards. Blaise LaVista has been his favorite target with 15 touchdowns. Lake Forest’s two losses, to Lake Zurich and Stevenson, came to a pair of teams Libertyville has already beat.
Glenbard East (6-1) at Glenbard South (5-2)
In the first year of the Upstate Eight Conference splitting into two divisions, this one looks like it will decide the East. Glenbard East enters at 4-0, the Raiders are a half-game back at 4-1. The Rams have been lighting up the scoreboard all season behind quarterback Michael Nee, scoring at least 41 points the past five weeks. Jacob Garbett’s field goal was the difference for Glenbard South last week in a win over Ridgewood. The Raiders are 1-4 in their last five vs. Glenbard East.
Lyons (7-0) at York (6-1)
York needs a win here to create a three-way tie for the West Suburban Silver lead. It won’t be easy — Jon Beutjer’s Lions are perfect this year and coming off a 21-20 upset over Downers Grove North when they scored the game’s final 21 points. York did beat Lyons twice last season, 24-14 in the regular season and 17-14 in the playoffs.
Aurora Christian (5-2) at Wheaton Academy (6-1)
This looks like the toughest obstacle left between the Warriors and a perfect run through the Chicagoland Christian Conference. Ranked No. 4 in the state’s Class 4A rankings, Wheaton Academy is rolling, losing only to a state-ranked team from Texas in its opener. A stingy defense with 11 senior starters has only allowed 8 points the past three weeks. Aurora Christian junior QB Asa Johnson is coming off a 329-yard, 4-touchdown effort in last week’s win over Marian Central Catholic.
Rolling Meadows (5-2) at Hersey (4-3)
Prospect is in good shape to win the MSL East this year after its hard-fought 30-27 win over Hersey last week, but this matchup might end up being the most interesting in the conference this week. Hersey had a 27-23 lead late but couldn’t hold off Prospect’s final drive. They will try to rebound with RB Brandon Jenkins again playing a key role. He continued his big season with 225 rushing yards vs. Prospect. Keeling Murray rushed for 133 yards last week on just 5 carries for Rolling Meadows last week in an easy win.
