Film chronicling Obama’s rise to make Chicago debut
As the nation watches Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign with excitement about electing the first Black woman President, a new movie offers a look back on the election of the first Commander-in-Chief.
“Things Are Tough All Over” will make its Chicago debut on Monday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema, 2828 N. Clark St.
“Things Are Tough All Over” is set against the backdrop of Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign. Have we progressed or regressed since then? The movie explores this question.
The story centers on a Chicago family – Nicole, Rodney and their children Trey and Elise – as they rely on faith, family and friends to survive the Great Recession. They cling to hope as they watch Obama’s rise.
“Things Are Tough All Over” was written and directed by Chris Bournea. He is also the writer/director of the documentary Lady Wrestler, which chronicles African American women who broke racial and gender barriers to integrate professional wrestling in the 1950s.
