Endorsement: Ness for Illinois House District 66
Incumbent Suzanne Ness, a Democrat from Crystal Lake, is challenged by Laurie Parman, a Republican from Sleepy Hollow, for state representative in District 66.
Ness joined the legislature in January 2021, and since then, she has managed to get quite a bit done. According to her website, she has helped bring over $34 million to the district, sponsored and passed 11 bills that were signed into law and been an advocate for the needs of her constituents. And based on this legislation, Ness has proved to be a bipartisan legislator.
And when Ness was a minority member of the McHenry County Board, she contributed to the crafting of new ethics guidelines for the board, worked on protecting the region’s water supply and more.
Parman is a retired teacher. Her 30 years of experience and leadership in the public school system is impressive. School safety was a focus while she was there, which could be beneficial in Springfield, and we think she could work well with others who have differing opinions. But Parman has no prior public office experience, and while she has a handle on current issues, she lacks solid plans on how to deal with them.
It’s hard to ignore Ness’ experience and accomplishments to date, and she has proved she's up to the task in Springfield. Ness is endorsed.
The 66th House District includes parts of Algonquin, Crystal Lake, East Dundee, West Dundee, Elgin, Gilberts, Huntley, Sleepy Hollow and Lakewood.
