Endorsement: Krishnamoorthi for Congress, Dist. 8

Since his first election to Congress in 2016, Schaumburg Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi has been a hard-working, dedicated representative for the 8th District, and he has steadily grown in skill and in stature over the years.

Moderate in temperament and on policy, he emphasizes a commitment to bipartisanship and consistently demonstrates openness to respectful dialogue on issues ranging from immigration to foreign policy and economic affairs, while steadfastly defending his own positions.

On immigration, he argues Congress must undertake comprehensive long-term policy reform and, along the way to that, firmly supports the Lankford compromise bill that got stymied by politics earlier this year.

On economics, he advocates for spending controls and careful appropriation of resources, and is ranking member of a House panel — the Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party — with the ability to influence policy involving our nation’s largest competitor. He also sits on the Economic Growth, Energy Policy and Regulatory Affairs subcommittee of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability as well as the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He has been aggressive and legislatively successful in the effort to reduce vaping among young people and created the bipartisan Congressional Caucus to End the Youth Vaping Epidemic.

On foreign affairs, he is a strong supporter of Israel in its struggles with Hamas and Hezbollah while promoting efforts to reduce suffering and produce long-term results toward a lasting peace. He shows similar energy in his support for Ukraine and for a strong NATO presence in Europe.

While he is articulate and influential in all these areas and more, Krishnamoorthi also takes pains to tout his staff’s success in responding to problems raised by constituents in the 8th District.

His challenger, Republican Mark Rice of Chicago, also espouses moderation toward most issues, although with some policy differences compared to Krishnamoorthi, and emphasizes his interest in bipartisan, cooperative service. But it is Krishnamoorthi who exhibits the sharpest command of the issues and who has demonstrated the capacity to influence them in positive ways.

He gets our strong endorsement.
