Endorsement: Grasse for Illinois House District 53

Two candidates are vying for state representative in the 53rd District.

Incumbent representative Nicolle Grasse, a Democrat, is facing off against Republican Ronald Andermann.

Grasse, a current Arlington Heights village trustee, was appointed new state representative for the 53rd District in June by a panel of Northwest suburban Democratic leaders. She filled the vacancy created when Mark Walker left the post last month to fill the 27th District Senate seat left vacant when Ann Gillespie accepted Gov. JB Pritzker’s appointment as head of the Illinois Department of Insurance.

Ronald Andermann

Andermann, also an Arlington Heights resident, is retired with a legal background. He has never held public office.

While the candidates offer varying views on issues such as the influx of migrants in our area, criminal justice reform and Illinois’ assault weapons ban, Grasse’s experience with local government and as state rep for the past four months can’t be overlooked. She offers solid plans to address these issues, and we like her humanitarian approach and goal to “make the world a better place for all.” She is a knowledgeable candidate who deserves more time to put these plans in motion.

Grasse is endorsed.

The 53rd District includes portions of Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village.
