Police: Woman gave false name, tried to run after being stopped for speeding

An Elgin woman accused of providing police with a false name and trying to run away after being stopped for speeding in Bartlett was charged with a number of offenses.

Tyresa Garner, 24, was charged Tuesday with three Class A misdemeanors — for driving on a revoked license, obstructing a peace officer and obstructing identification. She also was cited for speeding, illegal transportation of alcohol and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

According to police a Bartlett police officer conducted a traffic stop at about 4 a.m. Tuesday on a 2009 Honda Accord for an alleged speeding violation on Lake Street near Naperville Road. Police alleged that Garner failed to provide the officer with a government-issued ID card and proceeded to identify herself by a fictitious name.

During the stop, police reported that Garner exited her vehicle and ran from the scene. She was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Garner was granted pretrial release with a court date of Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
