Elgin Master Chorale’s 2024-25 season will be ‘From the Heavens’

The Elgin Master Chorale announced its 2024-25 season, “From the Heavens,” a transcendent journey through some of the greatest choral masterworks. This season, they invite audiences to experience the divine power of choral music, featuring works by Robert Hanson, Johannes Brahms, Johann Sebastian Bach, and more.

Kicking off the season on Sunday, Oct. 27, the Elgin Master Chorale will perform Robert Hanson’s “Psalms of David” alongside Brahms' “Gesang der Parzen” and “Tragic Overture,” under the direction of Andrew Lewis and featuring the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.

This performance celebrates Hanson’s enduring legacy in the Fox Valley and Brahms’ timeless exploration of fate and human emotion.

The concert will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Blizzard Theatre at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive. Tickets are $31 or $26 for students and seniors.

On Dec. 13-15, the Elgin Master Chorale joins the Elgin Symphony Orchestra for their annual holiday celebration, bringing seasonal joy and festive music to the community.

In the spring, experience the story of Christ's Passion set to Bach’s stirring choral and orchestral music on April 13. A powerful Lenten performance of one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most profound works, St. John Passion, in collaboration with Bella Voce Sinfonia.

On May 3-4, the sopranos and altos of the Elgin Master Chorale join the Elgin Symphony Orchestra for a captivating performance of Gustav Holst’s “The Planets,” an orchestral suite inspired by the celestial bodies.

The season will close on June 21 with “America the Beautiful: A Concert of American Music.” Celebrate America’s rich musical heritage with a new concert featuring music by some of the nation’s greatest composers. It will be featuring the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Andrew Lewis.

With a lineup of breathtaking performances, this season promises to be a truly celestial experience. Each concert offers a unique opportunity to hear the power of choral music performed at the highest level, bringing together the voices of the Elgin Master Chorale and the talented musicians of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and other prestigious ensembles.
