It’s a terrible time to hike taxes

I wonder if our local leaders have been to the grocery store lately. Far from the trumpeted 3% inflation the politicians use, groceries have soared.

Now three taxing bodies in Naperville want to ask the voters for a whopping $458 million in taxes. Their timing is terrible.

Don’t be fooled by District 204’s “no increase” levy request. The levy is set to expire, and they would like you to believe that when a levy is to go to zero, keeping it is not an increase.

While technically that’s correct, a yes vote will put residents on the hook for a possible $420 million package.

At least the Forest Preserve of DuPage County is open and aboveboard, asking for an increase in their limiting levy. The stated purpose is for upkeep, continued acquisition of acreage, and programs. Maybe they should investigate increasing fees for those who use the Preserves. That package totals $17 million

Finally, the Naperville Public Library must go to the City Council to ask for a levy increase. They can’t ask us directly and the decision will be made without a vote.

While it is only $741,000 the decision would be a one-off with minimal input from us, the taxpayers.

Let the council know your opinions.

We are able to vote on the other two. Please consider a no vote.
