Girls golf: St. Charles North, Hinsdale Central win sectional crowns
St. Charles North won the Class 2A Rockton Hononegah girls golf sectional at Atwood Homestead Golf Course on Monday, earning a trip to the state tournament Oct. 18-19 at Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth.
The North Stars finished with a 333 total, four shots better than Naperville North. The Huskies and third-place finisher Plainfield North also are headed to state.
Freshman Kayla Beu led the North Stars with a 77 for fourth place, four shots behind winner Delaney Medlyn from Crystal Lake Central co-op.
The North Stars' other counting scores came from Abigail Gizewicz and Rylee Huddleston with 84s and an 88 from Simran Mani.
Georgia Riley fired a 78 to pace the Huskies. She was followed by Addyson Ciganek with an 83, Alex Yaeger's 86 and a 90 from Addison Wu.
Waubonsie Valley sophomore Mina Shyam shot an 82 to qualify as an individual, and Wheaton North freshman Ariana Savenok also advanced with an 84.
Class 2A Sandburg sectional: Hinsdale Central cruised to the team title at Silver Lake with a 301 total, 25 shots ahead of Downers Grove North. Lockport grabbed the third spot to state.
Senior Toral Bhatt led the Red Devils with a 69 to earn medalist honors. Teammate Elyssa Abdullah also finished under par with a 72 for third.
Lexi Fertig paced the Trojans with a 76.
Downers Grove South's Mia Wanserski took sixth overall with a 77 to earn one of the individual spots at next weekend's state tournament.
