Lombard celebrates 2024 Senior Man and Senior Woman of the Year winners

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the village of Lombard recognized the 2024 Senior Man and Senior Woman of the Year during the 18th annual Senior Fair at the Madison Meadow Athletic Center.

Joseph Martinet, a 46-year Lombard resident and U.S. Army veteran, has been named the 2024 Senior Man of the Year. Martinet is a highly regarded member of the community, earning praise from neighbors for his continuous commitment to service. He regularly volunteers at St. Pius X Parish, assisting with various annual events, including the Cub Scout Pancake Breakfast, and is an active member of the Knights of Columbus. His dedication to improving the lives of others and his lasting positive contributions to the community are why he was selected as this year’s Senior Man of the Year.

Cindy Ward was named the 2024 Senior Woman of the Year for her tireless efforts in the Lombard community. A resident for over 25 years, she has been involved with numerous local organizations, including the Lombard Historical Society, Lombard Park District, Lombard Garden Club, and Helen Plum Library. She also brings joy to residents at senior centers and nursing homes, performing with her banjo group. Ward’s ongoing commitment and leadership in these community efforts are the reasons she has received this distinguished recognition.

The 2024 Senior of the Year nominees also included Patti Lindstrom and Charlotte Maroon.

“It's our honor to recognize these inspiring Lombard residents,” said Trustee Dan Militello, chair of the community relations committee. “They highlight the values that strengthen our community and remind us of the impact one person can have on the lives of many.”

This year’s Senior Fair welcomed over 400 seniors and featured a wide range of services, including flu shots, blood pressure checks, and over 65 vendors providing valuable resources and information for attendees.

The Senior Fair is supported by the community relations committee, which includes chair Dan Militello, alternate chair/trustee Bernie Dudek, and committee members Pamela Bedard, Brittney Conway, Beth Gunzel, Michael Ledonne, Kaveria Lezza, Megan McVane, Gladys Piper, and Sharon Vish.
