Mundelein Arts Commission's auditions for ‘A Christmas Carol’
As the year rolls down to winter, it’s time once again for the Mundelein Arts Commission’s annual presentation of the original musical “A Christmas Carol.” This year’s production will be directed once again by Jon Matousek and Joyce Lee, with Kai Funihashi providing musical accompaniment. This year’s production will be presented in a concert version, and singers and actors are needed to fill the many parts.
Auditions will be held Oct. 15 and 16, with the first read-through set for Oct. 17. After that, rehearsals are tentatively set for Tuesdays and Thursdays, but will be flexible according to the cast’s needs. The show will be presented the weekend of Dec. 6-8 to coincide with Winterfest and the tree lighting, with performances at 7:30 on Dec. 6 and 7 and 2:30 on Dec. 7 and 8.
According to Lee, “While we would love to do the show as a full-scale production, our venue of the Village Hall Boardroom presents many challenges, including a lack of storage and prep space, and a big show is impractical. We’ve done this piece as a radio production, but felt that this year a concert version would best work in the space.”
Matousek adds, “It’ll be a relaxed, pleasant way to present the show without losing any of its dramatic or musical quality.”
There are many parts available for all ages, adults and children. Auditions will run from 7-9 at the Mundelein Village Hall, and auditioners are asked to prepare a song and be ready to read from the script.
“We’ve always had a nice group of repeat performers, and we welcome new faces as well, as the show is adaptable to cast size,” says Matousek.
