Man shot by police in Aurora identified
The Kane County coroner has released the identity of a man killed by police last week in Aurora after a chase from Plano, where the man was suspected of killing someone.
The man, who died of a single gunshot wound, was Nicholas Novak, 36, of Aurora.
Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting, which occurred Friday night near Eola Road and Ogden Avenue (Route 34) on Aurora’s southeast side.
Plano police and Kendall County deputies responded around 6:45 p.m. to a report of shots being fired. They found Russell Novak, 70, shot. They pursued the vehicle of a man they believed was involved.
The chase ended near Eola Road and Ogden Avenue on Aurora’s south side. Authorities said they “encountered the armed suspect,” and a Plano officer and a Kendall deputy shot at him.
Russell Novak’s ex-wife told ABC7-Chicago Saturday that Nicholas was her and Russell’s son.
