District 207 receives $100,000 grant from Rivers Casino’s Charitable Foundation

Rivers Gives, the Rivers Casino charitable foundation, recently awarded Maine West High School a $100,000 grant that the school will use to fund college scholarships for the Class of 2025.

Rivers Gives is a regular financial supporter of Maine Township High School District 207. This money will again be used to provide scholarships that Maine West students can apply to receive. Recipients are chosen based upon an essay, letters of recommendation and grade-point average.

The school provided 35 students in Maine West’s Class of 2024 scholarships with the money provided last year by Rivers Gives. Scholarships ranged from $1,000 to $10,000. They plan to do the same with the donation this year.

A student last year wrote the following after receiving a scholarship: “No words can describe how happy, thankful, and honored I am to have been selected as the recipient of the Rivers Casino Scholarship. I was shocked when I learned that I was chosen for this scholarship. I am now able to strive in my education because I no longer have to fear paying my tuition. I am a first generation student and I will continue to work hard not only for myself but for my father who came to the United States with nothing. Thank you!”

Another student wrote: “Thank you so much for selecting me as a recipient of your scholarship. For most of my life I didn’t think going to college would be an option for me, as a daughter of a single mother who also has two other kids. For this reason, we are deeply grateful for your generosity. I will be the first in my family to earn a degree.”

In addition to supporting Maine West and other organizations, Rivers Gives donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to various Chicago area organizations as well as provides thousands of volunteer hours.
