St. Charles library celebrating ‘One Book, One Community’ with ‘The Music of Bees’

Throughout the month of October, the St. Charles Public Library will celebrate “One Book, One Community,” a shared, community-wide reading experience.

It’s an opportunity to connect with the entire community through a fascinating book, engaging discussion, and a variety of events. The selection, “The Music of Bees” by Eileen Garvin, tells the story of three lonely strangers who find themselves together by chance and forsakenness. Garvin offers a reminder: you’re never too old to start over, too young to grow up, or too lost to be found. All you have to do is listen for the music. It may be in the most unlikeliest of places.

“One Book, One Community” includes book discussions, a writing workshop, a baking program, crafts, and a wide variety of programming for all ages throughout the month. Kids are invited to join in the celebration of our community’s love of reading and fun too by reading the companion books “Beehive” by Jorey Hurley, “You Are a Honey Bee!” by Laurie Ann Thompson, and “Hour of the Bees” by Lindsay Eager.

The monthlong celebration concludes with a special presentation at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St. in St. Charles.

Join this illuminating discussion with national bestselling author Eileen Garvin about “The Music of Bees” and the stories and inspiration behind the novel. Registration is suggested as seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
