Travel with Geneva High School theater on ‘The Great American College Tour’
Geneva High School’s theater season kicks off this weekend with the underclassmen play “The Great American College Tour.”
This satirical one-act follows prospective college students on campus tours to different types of American universities. Poking fun at the stereotypes of college campus cultures, “The Great American College Tour” offers a laugh for any audience member who has ever gone through or been involved in the college search process.
The freshmen and sophomores of Geneva High School’s theater program have been working hard to put together a show worthy of being this year’s premiere.
But to freshman Emily Toberman, who plays Mantis, it’s been all fun with the cast. She says she “loves everyone here,” and “it’s amazing” being a part of the show.
“The Great American College Tour” takes its audience on college visits to a Big 10 school, an Ivy League, a liberal arts, and even an online university. Freshman Ben Bottom says he’s most excited for the audiences to see the Big 10 school part of the show, and for them to witness “the interactions between every character.”
Any child or parent who has had to search for a college within the last decade will know the difficulty and thoroughness required to make an informed decision, and campus visits are a large part of that.
Ellie Harvey, a Geneva sophomore who plays Troy in the business school of “The Great American College Tour,” knows that audiences will enjoy the humorous references to these difficulties, calling them “funny in a way that you wouldn’t expect.”
“The Great American College Tour” takes advantage of American college stereotypes to humorize the average college visit, making the audience realize the absurdity of college traditions that Americans consider typical.
Come see these underclassmen this weekend act out what is soon to be their reality at Geneva High School.
“The Great American College Tour” begins at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4-5, in the high school auditorium, 416 McKinley Ave.
Be there ready to walk some campuses with these brilliant actors!
