This is your opportunity to recognize a varsity sports team that has excelled

Some performances require extra recognition. And not all of that recognition can come from us at the Daily Herald.

It might mean more if it comes from you, our readers.

Starting this month, we’re resuming our Athletes of the Month award. And we’re starting a new award, our Team of the Month.

We’re asking our readers to go to events.dailyherald.com and nominate a suburban varsity sports team you believe has shown the kind of excellence on the field or court to earn this award. We will accept nominations through the first couple weeks of the month, then ask readers to vote for the best nominee.

The Daily Herald’s Sports editors will pick winners for Athletes of the Month.

The winners, one from each area of the suburbs that we cover, will appear in an ad here in the Sports section the first Friday of each month.

Here’s a reminder for varsity high school sports coaches. We want your scores. Please send the final results of each varsity game/meet by 10 p.m. to prepsports@dailyherald.com so we can publish them in the next day’s newspaper and at dailyherald.com.

It’s just another way we’re trying to recognize local athletes. And like the above awards, we’ll be doing this during the winter and spring sports seasons also.
