Arlington Heights Community Concert Band presents ‘A Space Spectacular’

Blast off on an interstellar musical journey as the Arlington Heights Community Concert Band presents an exhilarating concert featuring a lineup that celebrates the magic of space and time. The event promises to be a captivating experience for music lovers and sci-fi enthusiasts alike.

Join for “A Space Spectacular“ at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, in Arlington Heights.

Conductor and artistic director, Pietro Pisello, chose music that will demonstrate the skill and musicianship of the 78 band members. Selections include two of Gustave Holst's The Planets, Jupiter, and Mars. Audience members will be transported Among the Stars with the enchanting composition by Lisa Galvin. This piece perfectly encapsulates the wonder of the universe, inviting listeners to reflect on the beauty of the night sky. The concert then takes a playful turn with John Williams’ “Parade of the Ewoks,” arranged by Jim Curnow, a delightful tribute to the beloved Star Wars saga that will surely evoke nostalgia and joy.

There are many other musical surprises in this concert. One surprise involves an unusual instrument called the Theremin. This is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the performer know as a thereminist.
