Line paves the way for another big Barrington win
The Barrington scoring machine continued to ring up points Saturday at the annual Saturday afternoon homecoming in Barrington.
The Broncos rushed for 251 yards and five touchdowns as the Broncos rode past Conant 55-14.
Barrington coach Joey Sanchez, whose team is averaging nearly 51 points per game, pointed to his offensive line for doing the behind the scenes work that has led to success of his team.
“Those guys are selfless, those guys work hard,” Sanchez said. “They are the unsung heroes of the team and they don’t get a lot if attention. They set the tone for us.”
Owen Fors, Aidan Sharpe-McClary, Gabe Galovich, Jack Neton and Bryan Galovich average 6-foot-4 and 276 points. They are led by Fors, who has an offer from Kansas.
“It is a team game,” said Fors, who is 6-4, 295 pounds. “Our running backs are good. They are waiting for blocks, they are waiting for holes.”
Sharpe-McClary, who is a 6-6 and 330 pounds, is a new starter this season.
“We have been working on running the football since last summer,” Sharpe-McClary said. “Coach Galovich is a fantastic coach and one of the things he says is to take pride in everything we do. And that really showed up today.”
Neton, who is junior and new to the line this season, says that he has adjusted to the speed of the varsity game.
“It all started for me back in June when the pace and the speed picks up,” Neton said. “it is just faster guys, but once you get adjusted to that, it is finishing every play.”
Gabe and Bryan Galovich are twins. They are also the sons of longtime Barrington offensive line coach Steve Galovich.
“The move over has been good,” said Brian Galovich, who started at center last year but moved to left guard this year.
“I didn’t have to snap this year, so I could play more aggressively this year. We mainly just focus on finishing every block.”
Gabe Galovich, who started one game last year and filled in at times at other spots last year, said that playing last year helped him tremendously.
“I got to see what I did last and I think all those nerves went away,” Gabe Galovich said. “I didn’t think I would like playing for my dad. It’s not weird. He is great coach and a better dad.”
Barrington (5-0, 1-0) scored first on a 16-yard run by Aydan Weiszhar, who would gain 88 yards in 10 carries. Weiszhar would later score on a four-yard run.
Conant (0-5, 0-1) came right back on the first play from scrimmage. Jalen Davis broke off an 80-yard run to tie the game at 7-7.
It was all Barrington from there as the Broncos would score five touchdowns in the second quarter.
Nick Peipert threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Matt Kania. Barrington’s Finn Karam followed with a 29-yard interception return. Charlie Ploder blocked a punt and Donovan Bjeeregaard-Dione recovered it for a touchdown.
Calvin Jackson, who had 135 yards on 11 carries, closed out the quarter with a 65-yard touchdown run and a two-yard scoring run.
Nick Phillis got the final score for the Broncos on a three-yard touchdown run.
Conant’s Jakub Glowacki finished the game’s scoring with a three-yard run
“I am proud of kids,” Conant coach Anthony Donatucci said. “They came into the game ready to go. We just had some dumb things happen. The pick-six and the blocked punt and the rails came off.”
