Person hit by train near Elgin last week identified

The pedestrian hit by a train near Elgin last week has been identified. The Kane County Coroner said Friday that John Jacob, 73, of Elgin, died Sept. 17 after being hit by a CPKC train on the tracks near Coombs Road, north of Highland Avenue, in Rutland Township near Elgin. Investigators are awaiting results of toxicology testing before ruling on the manner of death. The coroner’s office is working with the Kane County sheriff’s office and the Canadian Pacific Railway Police Department in the ongoing investigation.
