Civil War soldier to be honored Saturday in Lake County
A Civil War salute honoring the service and marking the grave of Samuel E. Ames will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at Mount Rest Cemetery, 42455 N. Route 41 in Wadsworth.
The grave of Ames, unmarked since his death in 1899, will have a headstone unveiled as part of the ceremony. The event also will feature dozens of Civil War re-enactors, a reading of the Gettysburg Address by an Abraham Lincoln actor, cannons and muskets, and a drum and bugle corps.
Gates open at 10 a.m. and the program starts at 11 a.m. The event is organized by Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
