Rolling Meadows tax professional pleads guilty to federal fraud charges
A suburban tax professional admitted to federal fraud charges Friday, officials said.
Adam R. Oliva, 43, of Rolling Meadows pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of preparing a false tax return in federal court, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
As part of his plea deal, Oliva admitted to the court that, from 2015 to 2020, he obtained more than $1.1 million from more than 10 clients ostensibly to pay their income taxes when, in fact, he kept the money, the news release stated.
His most recent guilty plea carries a punishment of up to 20 years in federal prison for wire fraud and a maximum sentence of three years for preparation of a false tax return. Oliva pleaded guilty in a separate fraud case earlier this year in which he pocketed money from investors for personal expenses. He faces up to 20 years in prison for this charge.
Oliva’s sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 24, 2025.
