Hoffman Estates hosting open houses at two fire stations in October

The Hoffman Estates Fire Department is kicking off Fire Prevention Month by hosting two fire station open houses this October.

They will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Fire Station 24, 5775 Beacon Pointe Drive, and Saturday, Oct. 19, at Fire Station 23, 1300 Westbury Drive.

Activities for children include sliding down the fire pole, Touch-a-Truck and a firefighter obstacle course. Sparky the Fire Dog will be there, and the Air Methods aeromedical helicopter is scheduled land next to Firehouse 23.

The department aims to raise fire prevention awareness and create a safer community through station tours, fire sprinkler demonstrations, vendor booths and a chance to practice hands-on skills with a CPR station and fire extinguisher use with a live fire simulator.
