Barrington Wreaths Across America event nurtures year-round honor

Did you know there is a growing database of Barrington veteran profiles on the Barrington Area Library website?

As part of the Wreaths Across America mission to “Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom,” members of Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, have compiled and published more than 300 profiles of the 800 veterans buried at Evergreen Cemetery.

Using information gathered from available sources like obituaries, census records and newspaper articles, a record of honor for these military servicemen and servicewomen now “lives and grows” on the library website, to educate and benefit families and genealogists beyond the Barrington Community.

This database grows by 80 to 100 profiles each year. If you wish to provide information for a profile of your veteran relative, please email a DAR representative at signalhillnsdar@gmail.com.

Additionally, all identified veteran grave sites predating July, 2023, are now photographed and appear on a website used by family history researchers to determine birth, death and residence proof, known as Find A Grave. (findagrave.com/cemetery/2162449/evergreen-cemetery).

Help us honor all 800+ veterans buried at Evergreen with a live balsam wreath in December, by going to wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/159678/Overview/?relatedId=159677. If you wish to honor a specific veteran buried there, click on “Sponsor Wreaths,” then scroll down to “More Options” and scroll forward to “In Honor and Memory of” to enter veteran information. Grave Specific sponsors are granted early admission to the cemetery.

We hope you will join in honoring all identified veterans at Evergreen Cemetery on Wreaths Across America Day, Dec. 14, 2024.
