Bell, Morris connect in OT, lift Naperville North to thrilling win

Naperville North played a thriller Friday night down in New Lenox, beating Lincoln-Way Central 21-20 in overtime in a Southwest Valley crossover matchup.

Lincoln-Way Central (1-2) scored on its first possession of overtime, but Edward Mumford blocked the extra point.

Naperville North (2-1) found itself facing fourth down from the 16-yard line on its overtime possession. Quarterback Jacob Bell found Quinn Morris in the left corner of the end zone, tying the game at 20. Tyler Duewel kicked the extra point to win the game.

Bell also tied the game in dramatic fashion, throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass to Morris with 2:35 left in the fourth quarter.

The game was scoreless at halftime. Naperville North's Zach Mally helped keep it that way by blocking a short field goal attempt after Lincoln-Way Central got as close as the Huskies' 1-yard line.

Naperville North got on the board at the 8:57 mark in the third quarter when Bell capped a 59-yard drive with a 1-yard sneak. The bib play on the drive came when Bell hit Brock Pettaway on a 30-yard swing pass. Pettaway reversed field and ran down the left sideline to the 9-yard line.

Lincoln-Way Central tied the game at 7 after three quarters, then took the lead in the fourth before Bell's long TD pass sent the game to overtime.
